I am tired. I am tired of seeing people I knew in criminal reports. It is not a work anymore, it is a question of survival. We need protection against nazis, we need protection against mafia officials, protection against the very same law-enforcement officials who often serve them. And we are fully aware of the fact, that no one else except us would provide us this protection. Neither God, nor Tsar, nor the Law – no one else, only we.

Eine Frage des Überlebens
Stanislaw Markelow war ein herausragender russischer Rechtsanwalt, der zahlreiche wichtige Verfahren durchgeführt hat: Unter anderem gelang ihm 2003 erstmals die Verurteilung eines Angehörigen der Russischen Föderalen Streitkräfte aufgrund der Beteiligung am “Verschwinden” eines Bewohners der russischen Kaukasusrepublik Tschetschenien. Aber er beschränkte sich nicht nur auf seine Berufsausübung, sondern engagierte sich darüber hinaus in den sozialen Bewegungen und beteiligte sich an Umweltprotesten. Am 19. Januar 2009 wurde Stanislaw Markelow in Moskau von einem Neonazi ermordet.
